declaring the english major

Applications to the undergraduate English major are accepted on a rolling basis from students currently enrolled at the University of Washington. Admission to the language and literature pathway is not competitive at this time: all students who meet minimum requirements will be admitted.

After declaring the English major, students will be eligible to register for courses open only to English majors during Registration Period 1. Students from historically underrepresented ethnic/racial groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Students may also apply, separately, to be admitted to the Creative Writing option for English majors. Applications for the creative writing option are accepted in autumn, winter, and spring quarters, due by 4:00pm on the 3rd Friday of the quarter.
